I love this background. I wrote many many poems and papers with Bic stick pens. I’m really going to date myself here but I’m still going to say it. I remember when Bic pens were first released and cost 19 cents apiece.
We called them stick pens because they didn’t have a clip on the pen itself and if you lost the cap which was inevitable for almost all of us, all you had was the stick. I chewed my caps up. Nervous habit. This was long before I took up smoking with any serious intent.
They were leaky and turned your fingers whatever color they were, ruined more than one boy’s shirt or girl’s purse and are responsible for the advent of that horrid wardrobe accessory the pocket protector, and left horrible blotches all over your papers and our English teacher in High School tried to forbid their use but he was shouted down by the parents who like having cheap pens their irresponsible kids could lose and the school board who said he could take off points for neatness but couldn’t tell us what products we could and could not use.
